How to
Fast-Search the
Gold Standard Song List
|
|
-
All
5,000 songs that comprise the
Gold Standard Song List are sorted 7
different ways:
1. By Genre, sub-sorted by Decade and Song Title
2. By Genre, sub-sorted by Decade and Songwriter
3. By Genre, sub-sorted by Song Title
4. By Song Title
5. By Songwriter, sub-sorted by Song Title
6. By Year Composed, sub-sorted by Song Title
7. By Year Composed, sub-sorted by Songwriter.
-
To ensure reasonably fast
loading time, each of the above 5,000-song listings—with one exception—is
spread over a number of web pages. For example, each of the
"By Genre" sorts uses 14
pages, one for each genre.
-
While short
pages load reasonably fast, there’s a down side. You can’t search the
entire Gold Standard Song List (GSSL) by keyword because the “Find” search
box applies only to the page currently on your screen.
-
The
disadvantage of having all 5,000 songs on one page is that, if you don’t
have a cable or DSL connection to the Internet, the page will take forever
to load.
FAST-SEARCH
SUMMARY
-
If you have
a cable, DSL, or other fast connection to the Internet, here’s how to
search the whole GSSL by keyword or phrase:
1.
Make sure you’re on the
correct page, the
one with “Song Title” as the selected tab. Click here to see the page.
2. With the cursor anywhere on the
screen except on a link, left-click your mouse (important!). This
"clears" your previous search and ensures
that your next search will begin at the beginning of the GSSL, not where your
last search left off.
3. Now hit Ctrl-F, enter your search
term (NOTE: You MUST get the spelling right, or your search will fail!), and click on the “Find” button.
Keep clicking on the "Find" button to find all instances of the
same search term.
4. You don’t have to close and
re-open the search box each time you do a search on a
new term. Just left-click on
any un-linked area of the screen to clear the previous
search, then do a new search.
If you don’t left-click first, the search will begin where your last
search left off, even if it’s half-way down the list.
